He groaned, pushing his fingers through his hair. “You’re going to kill me, aren’t you? That’s why you landed in my life. You’re here to make me rethink everything, to doubt everything I’ve told myself.”

 Emily had no idea what he was talking about anymore, but all she could think about was that he wasn’t leaving. She moved until their knees touched. She reached out and cupped his cheek. “Stay with me tonight.” She felt the stubble of his beard against her palm, a reminder of how human he was. “Because you’re the first person who makes me feel like I’m not alone.”

Phin groaned. He took her hand from his cheek and then kissed the center of her palm. Emily felt that kiss to her very center. She quivered, waiting, as Phin kissed her wrist, finding the pounding pulse there. His lips skimmed down her forearm, and when she felt the tip of his tongue taste the tendon in her arm, she bit her lip to stifle a moan.

“You’re an addiction I can’t defeat.” He kissed her wrist one last time. He sounded like he didn’t care that he’d been defeated. “I want you more than I’ve wanted any other woman.”

Emily inhaled a shaky breath. She could feel how hard her nipples had gotten from that simple touch. “Then have me,” she said.

One moment passed. Then another. And then Phin hauled her into his arms and kissed her like a man possessed, like he’d needed to kiss her for ages. She sighed and wrapped herself around him. Being his arms simply felt right.

He kissed her until her bones melted. She ran her hands through his hair, the strands silky. This close, she could see how they glinted in the low light. His beard scratched at her chin as he kissed her, heightening the sensations.

“God,” he said as he kissed down her throat. He licked at the pulse point in her neck. “What are you doing to me?”
