What an emotional historical romance!  I can't tell you how many times I had to read for a tissue while reading.

There is so much more than meets the eye when it comes to Delphine. Everyone sees her as a prize to be won and not for the intelligent, compassionate and caring woman she is.  She became infatuated with Stephen the first time she him, but right after their first meeting he looked at her is disdain.  They meet again at a ball on the same night that he is about to go to war.  Stephen saves her from a gentleman's unwanted attentions and shares a dance with her.  Delphine is not sure if she will see him again, so she makes a bold move and sends him off with a flower, a passionate kiss and a whispered command that he will come back.

Stephen is captivated by Delphine when he first meets her, but seeing her charming dukes and other gentlemen at the ball gives him the wrong impression of her.  He is severely injured while at war and is brought the the makeshift hospital where Delphine is helping her sister tend to the wounded.  Just a few days after he arrives, he receives news that he is being accused of fleeing from the battle and stealing from his fellow soldiers.

Delphine is the only one whose faith in his innocence never falters. She decides to help him with his recovery even if he will never return her feelings. As she helps him recover from his injuries, he begins to see the real Delphine and falls in love with her.  These two had a lot against them, but their love was enough to eventually find their HEA.

  1. This was a terrific excerpt tonight! A couple of things became much clearer to me about Delphine and Stephen. Stephen jumped to conclusions at the ball before he went off to war and went away with a wrong impression of Delphine. But Delphine was constant in her love for him. It took being wounded and cared for by Delphine for Stephen to come to his senses. Now I want to read the entire story to catch all the nuances and conversations they have. Thanks for the post. jdh2690@gmail.com
