In the third novel in Maya Rodale’s charming Wallflower series, London’s Least Likely to Be Caught in a Compromising Position finds temptation in a devilishly handsome stranger . . .

Miss Prudence Merryweather Payton has a secret.

Everyone knows that she’s the only graduate from her finishing school to remain unwed on her fourth season-but no one knows why. With her romantic illusions shattered after being compromised against her will, Prudence accepts a proposal even though her betrothed is not exactly a knight in shining armor. When he cowardly pushes her out of their stagecoach to divert a highwayman, she vows never to trust another man again.

John Roark, Viscount Castleton, is nobody’s hero.

He’s a blue-eyed charmer with a mysterious past and ambitious plans for his future-that do not include a wife. When he finds himself stranded at a country inn with a captivating young woman, a delicate dance of seduction ensues. He knows he should keep his distance. And he definitely shouldn’t start falling in love with her.

When Prudence’s dark past comes back to haunt her, John must protect her-even though he risks revealing his own secrets that could destroy his future.

The hour had grown late and the music and dancing had long since ceased when two more guests stumbled up the stairs to the inn and pushed open the door. “God, that rain!” Lord Fitz-Herbert exclaimed, brushing the water off his jacket and trying to dry his hair. They’d gotten soaked just from the mad dash from their carriage to the parlor. Their valets had been sent around to the stables to see to the horses.  “How bloody inconvenient that the road to London should be practically washed away,” his companion grumbled. In an effort to reach Pangbourne for the boxing match in time they had planned to travel through the night, only to find the roads a mess and a bridge washed away. They turned back and sought refuge here.“I told you we should ford the river.”  “Yes, if we wanted to drown.” “Like we’re not practically drowned now.” Fitz-Herbert snorted.  “Just because you’re so desperate to get to London on your daddy’s orders doesn’t mean the rest of us are.” Fitz’s friend, Lord Dudley, gave him a withering stare in the dim light. “Do shut up, Fitz” Dudley snapped. His father controlled the purse strings and used them to manipulate him like his son was a bloody puppet. Not fancying himself penniless, Dudley tended to obey orders. But he didn’t like it. Especially when it meant he was wet. “Might I remind you that on our way to London is the boxing match. And I know you want to see that as much as I.”
It's the first time I've ever read about rape in a historical romance.  It is a very hard subject, and I think that she did a wonderful job.   Prudence didn't have much of a choice after her attack, she either kept is a secret, or she would be forced to marry her attacker since she was comprised.  She's been terrified of being alone with a man, and has avoided them at all costs.  John is such a strong hero, he knew just how to treat Prudence to help her heal. I wish he had been honest with her from the beginning, but at least it all works out in the end.

I didn't read the first two books in the series, but I am definitely looking forward to reading them now.  This book can be read as a standalone.

Maya Rodale began reading romance novels in college at her mother’s insistence and it wasn’t long before she was writing her own. Maya is now the author of multiple Regency historical romances. She lives in New York City with her darling dog and a rogue of her own.
